Our volunteer legal assistants work directly with clients to provide information and referral services, take instructions and schedule appointments. Legal assistants also provide general admin support such as answering the phones, photocopying and filing and will have opportunities to assist with legal research and drafting.
Volunteer legal assistants are usually law students who have completed at least two years of their law degree and work one day per week for at least six months. Training and supervision is provided.
We look for volunteers with administrative/paralegal experience; good oral and written communication skills; the ability to take initiative and genuine interest in the issues affecting vulnerable migrants in Australia.
