Join IARC to learn about the new legislative instrument which expands the evidence victim-survivors of family violence can provide to continue with certain visa applications on the basis of the family violence provisions.
The Minister has made a new legislative instrument which expands the evidence that victim-survivors of family violence can provide to continue with certain visa applications on the basis of the family violence provisions. The changes allow for more support services to provide documents in support of a family violence claim. The changes also expand on the kinds of documents that can be provided, including letters, reports and risk assessments, depending on the provider.
IARC and other specialist organisations provided input and submissions during consultations with the Department of Home Affairs before the instrument was made.
While there is still a lot more work to be done to provide safety and support to victim-survivors on temporary visas, this new legislative instrument is a change that we hope will go some way to reduce the additional barriers and stressors faced by some victim-survivors.
